DENIZLI
As an Aegean region dance, it displays movements signifying self assurance, dignity and bravery. Stemming from tales of heroism, the dance shows the pride, the confidence and the courage of the Western Anatolian people.
ASHUK & MASHUK
It is a dance for entertainment purposes from the Mediterranean region of Turkey. Ashuk and Mashuk, both historical folk show characters, are in love. The dance dramatizes the age old story of "boy meets girl." The costumes consist of makeup painted on the dancers' bodies, from their necks to their bellies, along with a body suit which completes the full costume. The makeup on their bodies exaggerates Ashuk and Mashuk's faces in courtship.
KARADENIZ
Karadeniz is dance from the Black Sea region depicts the life of the fishermen on the powerful Black Sea. Dynamic folk dances from the Black Sea coastline which is pinned against lush and rugged mountains, express the vigor and impatience of the people in the region. They are usually danced collectively with rapid and rhythmic movements. Harsh nature and unpredictable sea-life is also reflected in these dances.
HALAY
The word HALAY refers to getting together with people. The Halay dance and its variations are found in many different regions of Southeastern Anatolia. It is a rhythmic dance that illustrates the local agrarian life style.
SPOON DANCE
The Spoon Dance is performed from Konya to Silifke and consists of gaily dressed male and female dancers clicking out the dance rhythm with a pair of wooden spoons in each hand.
